If a movie is or is about to become successful, people tend to make mockbusters of that film. Like, for example, Toyland Video (or more commonly known as Vídeo Brinquedo), they tend to make bad versions of movies, like Ratatoing, The Little Cars, and What's Up. Sometimes, a mockbuster can have a sequel before a sequel to the actual movie came out, like The Little Cars 2, released in 2007, while Cars 2 was released in 2011.
Sometimes, a mockbuster can be racist towards certain people, like Finding Jesus, who has a sushi character talking in a stereotypical Asian accent. Do they even know that, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female, all for you are one in Christ Jesus. If you are now Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise." (Galatians 3:28) or that Jesus says, "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and shall hate your enemy'. I, however, say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those persecuting you, bless those cursing you, do good to those persecuting you and hating you, so that you may be the sons of your Father, who is in the heavens. For He makes his sun rise on evil and good, and He sends rain on righteous and unrighteous." (Matthew 5:43-45) Now, these stereotypes, like a person from East or Southeast Asia saying, "Herro! Ching-chong. Ching-cong." is very, very wrong. We should stop racism in every form possible.
Then there's The Little Panda Fighter, who has a character similar to a Care Bear. Not to mention, I just don't want to talk about the panda's dance moves.
Do you remember the infamous US VHS release of Cars? Well, apparently, A Car's Life has a VHS too. And, according to an eBay selling, it's way cheaper then Cars.
Now if you remember my last post of my You know what really grinds my gears? series, I talked about piracy and how it damages the economy. However, mockbusters are also not safe from piracy. You can watch some of them posted by ordinary YouTubers for free.
The point is, mockbusters tend to be so hilariously bad. Even The Amazing World of Gumball made fun of mockbusters with How to Ratatwang Your Panda, by showing a panda farting on a bunch of rats. Richard laughed because he thinks that the movie is "clever".
Now I wonder if those companies are gonna get sued for copyright infringement... I feel sorry for every grandma why purchased these kinds of films, thinking it's the real deal.
And that is what really grinds my gears.
