"The Godfather is about more than the Mafia; it's about conflicts in American culture. It's about a powerful man who builds a dynasty through crime—but he wants his son to be a senator, a governor; it's about the very nature of power. What it does to you. Who survives. I think it's a tragedy."
―Al Pacino, Seventeen magazine

Al Pacino is an Italian-American actor.

Biography

Al Pacino and Diane Keaton.

Al Pacino is a widely respected actor who elevated to stardom after appearing in The Godfather, a role which he had fought to obtain from such competition as James Caan (the studio's favourite) and Robert De Niro. Though Caan and De Niro would play a large role in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II respectively, Pacino held the leading role throughout the entire trilogy.

Al Pacino and Francis Ford Coppola.

His role as Michael Corleone in The Godfather earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Within a year, he was given the leading role in Serpico, yet another accomplishment, as the film would soon after become a TV show. Two years after the original Godfather, he would reprise his role as Michael Corleone in the sequel. By 1990, he would appear once more in The Godfather Part III. Pacino also portrayed Tony Montana in Scarface. Although this portrayal was met with some criticism, the film's poster, as well as the character of Tony Montana, have now become iconic pieces of today's culture.

He won an Academy Award for Scent of A Woman in 1992, after completing the Godfather Trilogy in 1990. Due to contract problems with the makers of Scarface: The World is Yours, he could not reprise the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather: The Game or its sequel.
