Alan Ladd (September 3, 1913 – January 29, 1964) was an American actor. He is best known for acting in The Reluctant Dragon (1941 film), The Carpetbaggers, The Glass Key, and the western flick, Shane. He attempted suicide in 1962, before the filming of The Carpetbaggers. He did not live to see its release, however, as he died in 1964 from an overdose of drugs and alcohol.
