American Dreamz is a 2006 satirical comedy written and directed by Paul Weitz.
Plot[]
On the morning of his re-election, U.S. President Joseph Staton (Dennis Quaid) reads the news for the first time in a while. While deep into his studies, he suffers a nervous breakdown and, in an attempt to boost his self-image, the Chief of Staff (Willem Dafoe) gets him a guest judge spot on the new season finale of American Dreamz, a massively popular TV singing competition hosted by Martin "Tweedy" Tweed (Hugh Grant). This season's contestants include Sally Kendoo (Mandy Moore), a fame-hungry country karaoke singer/bartender from small-town Padookie, OH, and Omer Obeidi (Sam Golzari), a recently exiled Iraq war veteran who is tasked by his jihad to suicide-bomb himself (while also killing the President) on finale day.
