Biography[]
Charlotte is a seventeen-year-old trying desperately to understand and be understood by the world around her. She travels to Tokyo with her husband John, who is there for a photo shoot with a band.
Despite a friend's assurance that she is fortunate to have so much freedom, Charlotte feels unhappy and isolated in Tokyo. Staying in the luxurious but lifeless Park Hyatt Hotel, she finds herself with no job or friends in the city, and unable to communicate with the locals due to the language barrier.
As she tries to find her purpose in life while her husband is away working, Charlotte listens to a self-help audiobook titled "A Soul's Search: Finding Your True Calling." Experiencing a quarter-life crisis, she forms a bond with Bob, who is undergoing his own mid-life crisis. Despite his greater life experience, he shares Charlotte's uncertainty about coping with their mutual dissatisfaction.
