Coup de chance (translated to Stroke of Luck) is a 2023 French drama thriller film written and directed by Woody Allen and starring Lou de Laâge, Valérie Lemercier, Melvil Poupaud, and Niels Schneider. The film premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2023. It was released in France three weeks later, on September 27, by Metropolitan Filmexport and garnered positive reception from critics.
Synopsis[]
Fanny and Jean have everything of the ideal couple: fulfilled in their professional life, they live in a magnificent apartment in the beautiful districts of Paris and seem to be as in love as on the day they first met. But when Fanny crosses, by chance, Alain, a former high school friend, her life is immediately turned upside down. They see each other again very quickly and get closer and closer.

In July 2022, Woody Allen announced he would be directing a French-language thriller film. In September 2022, Valérie Lemercier, Niels Schneider, Lou de Laâge and Melvil Poupaud joined the cast of the film. In February 2023, it was announced the film was titled Coup de chance.
Principal photography began in October 2022, in Paris.

Coup de chance received positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 83% based on 23 reviews, with an average rating of 6.9/10. Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 61 out of 100, based on 9 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.
