- Pilo: Some things start out big and some things start out small. Very small. But sometimes the smallest thing can make the biggest changes of all.
- (There are twelve eggs in the nest. Soon twelve eggs that will hatch into twelve beautiful dinosaur children. And before you can say "iguanodon", they will be fifteen feet tall and weigh four and a half tons)
- (A flock of ichthyornis flies gracefully overhead, water cascades down a nearby waterfall and the surrounding mountains are almost overbearing in their protective majesty. It is known as the Nesting Grounds, a valley of birth and growth where dinosaurs know their eggs will be safe)
- (The mother iguanodon notices a young parasaurolohpus taking an interest in her handiwork. She brushes him off gently with a free foot, but soon he returns. She turns suddenly, frightening him off with an exaggerated snort)
- (The little parasaurolohpus is on a child's mission. He hardly seems to notice the other mother dinosaurs and their nests as he makes his road through the thick foliage. In the clearing ahead, he can see several large brachiosaurs drinking from a sparkling lake. Then he watches as a winged lizard flies into a hollow log and comes out the other side with a stick-like fashion bulging from the corner of its mouth)
- (A drop splashes innocently onto a branch in front of the young dinosaur. He looks at it, but sniffs it curiously. It is too thick and gooey to be rain. He watches the strange, syrupy liquid stretch until it drips onto the ground below. There is a rustle of trees, and hears a low, menacing growl. He looks around, suddenly fearful, but all the little parasaurolophus can see are flashes of white through the bush. Teeth oozing with thick, gooey saliva. It is a carnotaur. He turns and flees)
- (The powerful carnotaur uproots trees and destroys everything in its path as it chases the young parasaurolohpus, who is running as fast as his little legs can carry him. The giant beast blazes through the forest with terrifying speed, and is about to overtake the smaller dinosaur, but then suddenly surges right past him)
- (A parasaurolohpus is just an appetizer, and the carnotaur isn't interested in an appetizer. He is looking for a real meal)
- (The herd of dinosaurs in the Nesting Grounds are caught unaware as the carnotaur bursts through the trees. Within seconds, the peaceful tranquility of the valley turns to chaos and panic. The herd scatters, stampeding away from the raging beast)
- (Moments later, with a deafening lament, the carnotaur smashes the nest complete with eggs. Looking around, he eventually spots his first curse--a slow-footed styracosaur. Without warning, the carnotaur pounces on the hopeless animal, roaring triumphantly)
- (As the terrifying roar echoes through the valley, a soft breeze blows gently through the trees surrounding the iguanodon nest. Eleven of the eggs are destroyed, but one has miraculously survived)
- (In the aftermath of destruction, an oviraptor snatches the egg from the nest and brings it to a jagged rock where he tries to crack it open. He catches the attention by one of his mates, and soon they are recklessly fighting over the egg. With all the clawing and pulling, the egg bursts free, plunging over the cliff into a river hundreds of feet below)
- (A labyrinthodon catches sight of the large egg sinking through the rushing water. He swallows the egg, but swiftly spits it out)
- (The egg continues along with the current, bobbing its road downstream. A giant pteranodon spots it from the air and swoops down and snatches the egg from the water. Without delay, the pteranodon makes its road home to a nearby island)
- (A flock of ichthyornis spots the egg from the ground, and flies at the pteranodon, trying to steal the egg midair. Fighting off the nasty birds, the pteranodon loses its grip on the egg and it slips off, disappearing through the clouds)
- (The calm serenity of Lemur Island is suddenly broken as the egg smashes through the thick, leafy branches of the towering trees, plunging toward the forest floor. It eventually lands in the outstretched branches of a huge tree, cradled delicately)
- (It is round and spotted and no tree-dwelling, vine-swinging, run-of-the-forest lemur has ever seen anything like it before. A few lemurs slowly approach)
- Zini: Yar, what is this?
- (They are looking at this fact that has just fallen from the heavens. To their amazement, it has landed safely, high in the outstretched branches of a large tree)
- Yar: I don't know.
- (Plio climbs up ahead, determined to get a better look)
- Yar: Plio! Get back here. We don't know what this is!
- Zini: Pilo, be careful.
- (She wasn't listening. With cautious steps, she moves toward the object. It is big, and something seems to be moving inside. With a loud crack, it starts to open and Plio draws back, alarmed. She continues to look at the egg, a thunder is heard again, and she opens the shell, the slime oozes inside of the egg, it was a baby Iguanodon in it.)
- Plio: Dad...get over here.
- Yar: Zini, it's not safe.
- Zini: Oh, I always have to go when stuff's happening.
- Yar: Well, what is this?
- Plio: It was an egg. Look.
- (Then she turns slowly, revealing a creature cradled in her arms the likes of which has never been seen on Lemur Island. It is a baby dinosaur.)
- Pilo: What?
- Yar: It's a coldblooded monster from across the sea. Vicious, flesh-eating...
- Plio: Looks like a baby to me.
- (She can't help feeling a kind of motherly love for the new arrival. Sure, it is a dinosaur, but it is also a baby)
- Yar: Babies grow up! You keep that fact, one day we'll turn our backs, it'll be picking us out of its teeth! Things like that eat things like us as snacks!
- Pilo: So, what do we do?
- Yar: Get rid of it!
- Plio: What has gotten into you, Dad?
- Yar: Plio, that thing is dangerous.
- (Plio looks into its happy, wide eyes. It is too cute to be dangerous)
- Plio: I'm sorry, little one.
- (Then she holds it out to Yar, who takes it into his arms awkwardly)
- Plio: Alright, get rid of it.
- (Yar is caught off guard)
- Yar: What?
- (Plio growls, turning her back. Yar composes himself)
- Yar: Alright. I will.
- (The group of lemurs watches as Yar steps to the edge of the branch, holding the little dino out to be dropped into the dark forest below. It is a long road down)
- Plio: You better hurry up, Dad. It looks hungry.
- (Yar grumbles to himself. Suddenly, he can feel everyone staring at him. Even the little dinosaur opens its eyes and looks at him curiously)
- (That does it. His work is ruined and he eventually can't handle fooling around these morons any longer)
- Yar: Here...
- Plio: It's alright, Dad. We'll teach it to hate meat.
- (Zini jumps closer, eventually getting a good look at the baby)
- Yar: Watch his head. I-I mean, watch it. He could bite.
- Zini: This monster has no teeth. What's he gonna do, gum us to death?
- Plio: Zini, c'mon. Look at that sweet little face. Does that look like a monster to you?
- (The scene cuts to the forest as the lemur kids scream and are chased by a grown-up Aladar who plays monster until he eats Suri and sucks her tail. Two lemur kids land on a patch of moss as Aladar approaches them slowly while he growls maliciously and snarls softly then a lemur kid shudders.)
- Suri: (inside Aladar's mouth) Let me out! Let me out!
- (Aladar chokes on Suri and then he spits her out.)
- Aladar: (coughs) Hair ball. (spits)
- Suri: That was great! Get him!
- (The lemur kids laugh and jump on Aladar's back.)
- Aladar: Oh, no! Attacking lemurs! Suri, please! I can't take it! There are too many of you! Come on! Pick on someone your own size! Help!
- (Plio sees Aladar who's being attacked by lemur kids and chuckles.)
- Aladar: Oh, no... (groans)
- (Aladar plays dead and wheezes.)
- Suri: Aladar, you're not dead.
- Aladar: (wakes up and scares the lemur kids) No! (laughs)
- Plio: All right, guys, break it up. Remember the courtship? You gonna miss seeing all that smooching.
- Suri: Oh, Mom.
- Aladar: That's okay, Plio. We can smooch right here! (kisses)
- (The lemur kids hop away from each other.)
- Plio: (chuckles sarcastically) It's a shame you don't like kids.
- Aladar: (grunts) Nasty little vermin.
- Plio: Ha-ha. Go find Zini. He's rehearing pickup lines. Let's hope he's find found some new material.
- (The scene cuts to Zini who stands on the rock at the beach.)
- Zini: "Hey, sweetie. If you'll be my bride, I'll groom ya." That is good. Oh, that's good. Girls, I'm known as the professor of love, and school's in session. (wheezing laugh) Yeah, I still got it. (exhales)
- Aladar: I hope it's not contagious.
- Zini: I'm a raging epidemic of romance.
- Aladar: (chuckles) Come on, hot stuff. Let's get going. You don't wanna miss Yar's annual pep talk.
- Zini: Oh, goody. I can't wait to hear the mating advice of an old monkey.
- Aladar: Hey, hey, hey, I heard that in this day, that old monkey was quite a swinger.
- Zini: You talkin' about Yar?
- Aladar: Yeah, to hear him tell it, he put the "prime" in "primate".
- Yar: Really?
- (The scene cuts to the courtship trees at sunset as Yar and Plio give mating advice to the male and female lemurs.)
- Yar: Okay, boys, gather 'round. Listen and learn from the master.
- Plio: Now, girls, don't jump into the trees after the first boy with a cute back flip. It's more fun if you keep them guessing.
- Yar: And if a cute back flip doesn't work, guess.
- Plio: You're never going to forget this day, so make it one to remember.
- Yar: But if you mess up, don't worry. They'll never remember.
- Aladar: Come on, guys! We don't wanna let them down!
- Yar: Go on, now. Chest up! Chin up!
- Male Lemur: Whoo!
- Yar: Make 'em look good, son.
- Aladar: Come on, Yar. My charm and your brains? No problem.
- (Yar laughs as Aladar approaches the courtship trees and bellows twice.)
- Aladar: Hey, girls, look what just pulled into town.
- Male Lemur: Hey, ladies!
- Aladar: Your buffet table of love.
- (The female lemurs laugh.)
- Male Lemur 1: Right here, right here!
- Male Lemur 2: Hey, beautiful!
- Zini: Hey, free samples! Get me while I'm hot!
- (Zini grabs Aladar's tail, rides on it and laughs sheepishly.)
- Suri: Zini. (
- The male lemurs jump to the top of the tree while Zini catches up. All the lemurs yip and howl which includes Suri, Zini and Yar as Aladar bellows. Zini jumps excitedly and falls into a branch as he mutters.)
- Suri: (chuckles)
- (All the male lemurs jump across and swing on the vines. Aladar picks up a branch with Zini in it.)
- Aladar: You're missing all the action, pal. Come on.
- Zini: Hey, haven't you heard? I am the action!
- (Aladar swings the branch to set Zini free as Zini swings on the vine. The female lemurs laugh and chitter as they climb up the vines while they hold flowers in their mouths. All the lemurs jump across the other vines and swing on them. Zini feels depressed after the other lemurs climb up the courtship trees. Aladar sighs and walks to Zini.)
- Aladar: Ah, don't worry, Zini. You always have next year.
- Zini: Hey, I'm lucky to be rid of them. With the ladies, before you know it, they all wanna move to a bigger tree.
- Aladar: (chuckles)
- Yar: Oh, well. Poor Zini. The clan still has one bachelor.
- Plio: No. We have two.
- (Plio walks to Aladar who places his head down to the patch of grass and Zini walks.)
- Plio: Well, it's never really been his best event.
- Aladar: (chuckles) He's got a tougher hide than mine.
- Plio: Oh, Aladar. If only there was someone on the island for you. Well, you know, who looks like you, but prettier.
- Aladar: Oh, come on, Plio. What more could I want?
- (Suddenly, the meteor shower appears in the sky.)
- Aladar: Whoa!
- (Aladar walks to see what happens and Suri hops on Aladar.)
- Suri: What are they?
- Aladar: I don't know.
- (Suri climbs to the top of the tree as the meteors hiss. The other lemurs watch in awe. A flock of Ichthyornis fly away while they squawk.)
- Yar: (sniffing)
- Plio: Dad?
- Yar: (sniffs) Something's wrong.
- Plio: (to Aladar) Aladar, where's Suri?
- Aladar: She's up in the tree.
- (Aladar and the lemurs see a giant meteor that plunges down the sky and hits the earth. Aladar and the lemurs feel surprised as the shockwave hits Lemur Island twice.)
- Plio: Come on! (Yar runs) Go, go! Come on!
- Suri: Mom!
- Plio: Suri!
- Suri: Mom! Mom!
- Aladar: Suri?
- Suri: Mom!
- Aladar: Suri, where are you?!
- (Plio climbs to the tree, takes Suri and lands on Aladar.)
- Plio: Run, Aladar! Run, run!
- (The meteors land on the water and the island as the monster cloud eats everything. The scene cuts to the lemurs who run away from the meteors as Aladar runs away from them.)
- Lemurs: (screaming)
- Yar: (grunts)
- Aladar: (picks up Yar) Yar, come on!
- (Zini runs away from the meteors while he pants.)
- Plio: Zini, jump! Jump!
- Aladar: Zini, jump
- ! Zini: (jumps on Aladar's side and grunts)
- Plio: Hold on!
- (Aladar continues to run away from the meteors as a meteor lands close as Aladar falls onto the ground and he yells.)
- Aladar: (panting heavily)
- (Aladar runs to the cliff as he sees water while the rocks fall down. The monster cloud destroys the courtship trees as Aladar looks at the monster cloud and gasps and he jumps into the water.)
- Aladar: (yells)
- (Aladar swims up and out of the water.)
- Aladar: (coughing) Plio, Yar! Where are you? (coughs)
- Plio: Aladar, over here!
- (Aladar sees Plio, Yar, Zini, and Suri on the big branch as he swims faster and he walks to the shore with rocks while he breathes heavily as he lies down.)
- Yar: (coughing)
- (Aladar sees the trees on fire and the island devastated and he sighs. Suri walks to the island and she howls twice as Aladar bellows.)
- Plio: (hugs Suri) Oh, Suri. Easy, easy.
- Suri: (cries) They're all gone.
- Plio: Shh, shh. I'm here. I'm here.
- Suri: (whimpers)
- Aladar: Come on. We can't stay here.
- (The lemurs look up on Aladar as they ride onto his back. Aladar looks up at the flock of Ichthyornis as survivors. Aladar walks to the desert across from the volcanos. In the morning, the wind howls as Aladar walks through the canyons while Suri cries softly.)
- Yar: (comforts Suri) Now, now, Suri. There's nothing to be afraid of.
- Zini: Look!
- Yar: (gasps)
- Aladar: Whoa!
- (A Velociraptor walks off after it squawks and chitters.)
- Aladar: Did you see that?
- Yar: What?
- Zini: I did.
- Suri: Me, too.
- Plio: Where did it go?
- Aladar: I don't know. Let's go see.
- Yar: Leave it alone. (Plio hits him) Hey!
- Plio: Shh, Dad.
- Yar: It's scaring Suri.
- Suri: No, it's not.
- Aladar: Everyone, just be quiet.
- (Aladar walks down as he sees a Velociraptor who eats the flesh off its left foot.)
- (A Velociraptor sees Aladar after it snorts. Two Velociraptors growl ferociously. Suddenly, another Velociraptor squawks as the herd of Velociraptors squawk and surround Aladar. A Velociraptor lands on the rock as Aladar gasps and then a Velociraptor purrs and roars as Aladar gasps and the lemurs screamed. Aladar backs up as a Velociraptor growls and tries to eat Aladar up. Aladar lifts his foot up and a Velociraptor hits a rock as Aladar runs away from the Velociraptors during the sandstorm while the Velociraptors chase after Aladar. One Velociraptor claws Aladar's side and eats it, a la Jurassic Park raptor attack.)
- Aladar: (cries out)
- (Another Velociraptor tries to eat Yar but Yar almost falls off as Zini holds onto Yar's hand.)
- Zini: Yar, grab on!
- Yar: (panting) I can't reach!
- (Zini pulls Yar up after a third Velociraptor tries to eat Yar but fails as it lets go of Aladar. The Velociraptors stop as one of them screeches.)
- Plio: Aladar, they're stopping!
- (The Velociraptors run away as a bellow echoes.)
- Aladar: Huh?
- Dinosaur: Stay out of my way!
- Dinosaur: You heard Kron. Move it!
- Dinosaur: Watch it!
- Yar: Zini, get your head down!
- Dinosaur: Walkin' backwards, huh? Well, let me know if that gets you there any faster. Keep those little legs movin', Url, or you'll get left behind.
- Suri: Look at all the Aladars!
- Yar: I-If you're even thinking of joining them--
- Aladar: Hang on! Hang on!
- Bruton: Kron. There is a more protected spot further down the--
- Kron: We'll rest here for the night. Go ahead, Bruton.
- Dinosaur: Oh, Eema, I wish we were at your nesting grounds now. All this pushing and shoving about, just for a place to sleep. I'm not used to this kind of behavior.
- Dinosaur 2: Baylene, you got big feet. Just give 'em a kick. Git!
- Dinosaur: Oh, I could not possibly. Uh, uh, shoo, shoo.
- Dinosaur 2: Will you come on, Baylene? You wanna get to the nesting grounds alive? Show some backbone.
- Aladar: Hey there!
- Dinosaur: AAAAHH!!
- Aladar: Oh, sorry about that. Uh, it's just we overheard you talking, and, um--
- Eema: Well, my word. Look at Url. He doesn't normally warm up to strangers so fast.
- Baylene: What an unfortunate blemish.
- Eema: Good mud bath'd clear those right up.
- Yar: Excuse me?
- Aladar: Um, he's my grandfather, a couple times removed.
- Zini: Try a couple of species removed.
- Aladar: My name's Aladar. This is my family. We're all that's left.
- Baylene: Oh, my dear, I'm so sorry.
- Eema: Baylene's the last of her kind. Finding stragglers like her all along the way.
- Pilo: I heard you say something about nesting grounds.
- Eema: It is the most beautiful place there is, child. It's where the herd goes to have their babies.
- Suri: Will we find anybody that looks like us there?
- Eema: Oh, the last few days I've seen 'em all shapes and sizes. Who knows what we'll find. The hard job now is just getting there.
- Baylene: And we're being driven unmercifully.
- Aladar: By who?
- Eema: Kron, the herd's head honcho.
- Baylene: We can hardly keep up. A-An older woman like myself, it's-- well, it's positively indecent.
- Aladar: Then tell him. What's the worst he can do? Hey! What's his problem?
- Eema: That's him, honey. Kron.
- Aladar: Uh, excuse me. Kron! You got a second?
- Bruton: Get lost, kid.
- Kron: Relax, Bruton. Who are you?
- Aladar: Uh, Aladar.
- Kron: Why aren't you uphill with the-- uh, young bloods?
- Aladar: Well, I was back here talking to these guys. I guess they-- they're having a hard time keeping up. So, you know, maybe you could slow it down a bit.
- Kron: Hmm. Let the weak set the pace. Now, there's an idea. You better let me do the thinking from now on, Aladar.
- Aladar: Hey, they need help back here.
- Kron: Watch yourself, boy.
- Neera: Don't worry. That's how my brother treats newcomers. No matter how charming they are.
- Zini: You sure know how to catch a girl's eye there, stud.
- Eema: I wouldn't be catchin' nobody's eye if I was you, especially Neera's. You just keep your head down, and you mind what Kron tells you.
- Yar: Since when do we take orders from the likes of him?
- Eema: Kron has swatted flies bigger than you, pops.
- Yar: I could hold that monster's brain in the palm of my--
- Aladar: No, Yar, she's right-- better to keep our heads down with this bunch... than get 'em bitten off by those things.
- Eema: Well, you just consider yourself lucky that's all that's following us.
- Zini: Hey, wake up. Enough with the beauty sleep. You're ravishing already. Hey! Hello! Anybody in there?
- Aladar: Zini, what are you doing?
- Zini: I believe you left a wake-up call for the dawn of time. Come on! Move it!
- Aladar: What's the hurry?
- Zini: Something's up. The herd's gathering without us. Let's check it out.
- Bruton: Rise and shine! Kron says everybody goes. Come on, get up. On your feet.
- Zini: The charm never stops around here.
- Bruton: You say something?
- Aladar: Uh, no. No, sir.
- Bruton: Unless you got a death wish, you and that little parasite better get moving!
- Zini: Sheesh, is that guy ugly, or what? Hey, hey, hey, there's your girlfriend.
- Aladar: What are you talking about?
- Zini: You know what I'm talking about: Neera. Scaly skin, yellow eyes, big ankles.
- Aladar: Yeah. I made a real impression on her.
- Zini: What you need is a little help from the love monkey.
- Aladar: ''The love monkey''?
- Zini: Oh, baby! [chittering]
- Neera: That, children, is what's known as a jerkosaurus.
- Zini: And with that, the ice is broken.
- Kron: We've got a lot of first-timers here. Make sure they get it. We stop for nothing and no one.
- Bruton: If this is your first crossing, listen up. There is no water till we reach the other side. And you'd better keep up, 'cause if a predator catches you, you're on your own. Move out!
- Baylene: Oh, my goodness. It looks like a very long walk.
- Eema: And hot. If you smell somethin' sizzlin', it could be me.
- Kron:We're moving too slow.
- Bruton: I'll pick up the pace.
- Yar: Hey, old girl, you're wandering off a bit.
- Eema: That's all I need: a monkey on my back.
- [Eema walks back to the herd. Aladar sees the corpse of a Struthiomimid, then he notices the Velociraptors in the distance nearby. When Aladar and the others move on, the Velociraptors walk up to the corpse and eat it. The next morning, Eema collapses to the ground, exhausted.]
- Aladar: On your feet, Eema. We can't let those things eat you. They're out there waiting.
- Eema: The lake!
- Yar: We made it?
- Eema: It's just over that-- that hill, baby.
- Baylene: Oh, thank goodness.
- Aladar: Come on, Eema. Water. Remember water?
- Eema: Well, it's time to refresh my memory. Ooh, I'm just gonna walk right into that lake... until the water's up to my eyeballs... and soak it all in.
- Bruton: Maybe the rains collected somewhere else. What do you want us to do?
- Kron: Take a scout and check the entire perimeter. Enough! You have to be strong now! The nesting grounds are only a few days away! Keep moving!
- Neera: Kron, we've never gone this long without water. If we keep going like this, we'll lose half the herd.
- Kron: Then we save the half that deserves to live.
- Baylene: What, they're moving already? Oh, we'll never keep up.
- Eema: There was water here. Always water here before. We always had water. Always. And-- And plenty of mud.
- Baylene: Oh, Eema, please. The herd won't wait. We must carry on.
- Aladar: You gotta get up!
- Eema: There was water everywhere.
- Baylene: There is no water, dear.
- Aladar: Baylene, don't move.
- Baylene: Uh, what is it? What's wrong?
- Zini: Do you hear that?
- Aladar: I sure do. Lift your foot, Baylene. Now press down.
- Zini: I always did like big girls!
- Aladar: Water.
- Baylene: Oh, my goodness!
- Aladar: Water! Come on!
- Neera: They found water.
- Baylene: That's it, Eema. Come drink.
- Aladar: Kron, look. All we had to do was dig and--
- Kron: Good. Now get out of the way.
- Aladar: Wait! Wait! There's enough for everyone! Eema! That's it. Keep pushing and shoving. That's very helpful.
- Bruton, we've been walking in circles.
- There's no water here.
- - I think we should get back.
- - Shh. Keep it down.
- Let's get out of here.
- Suri: Now, you come out on three. Come on. Come on out. No one's gonna hurt you.
- Aladar: Hey, hey, what's going on?
- Suri: The little Aladars haven't had anything to drink. I think they're scared of me.
- Aladar: Well, who wouldn't be? You are pretty scary.
- Aladar: Come on over, guys. Take it easy. Don't worry. She's just a hair ball.
- Suri: And proud of it. Come on. He's gonna find you some water.
- Aladar: Here. Now, you just take a foot and press. Whoa. Hey, hey, hey, come on, come on. Knock it off. Let's-- Let's work together here, huh? A little teamwork. Ready? One, two, three. Press! Good job, Suri. So, where are your parents, anyway?
- Neera: A lot of us are on our own now. You like kids, I see.
- Aladar: Well, the skinny ones can be a little chewy. I'm Aladar, the jerkosaurus.
- Neera: Oh. Sorry about that.
- Aladar: Probably right.
- Pilo: Dad, wake up.
- Yar: Huh?
- Neera: Why did you help that old one?
- Aladar: What else could we do? Leave her behind? Oh, you mean you actually--
- Neera: Well, that happens all the time. You don't survive if you're not--
- Aladar: Strong enough.
- Neera: Well, yeah.
- Aladar: Is that you talking, or your brother?
- Neera: Everything's so different. I-- I don't know what to think any more.
- Aladar: Look, Neera, we watch out for each other... we all stand a chance of getting to your nesting grounds.
- Neera: You sound so sure.
- Aladar: I'm not. But it's all I know. So, um-- Oh, water. I'll, uh, get you some water.
- Neera: Can I try?
- Aladar: Sure. Just press.
- - Oops!
- - Sorry.
- - No, you-- you first.
- Yar: One down and-- Well, one down.
- Bruton: Kron! Carnotaurs!
- Kron: What? They never come this far north.
- Bruton: The fireball must've driven them out.
- Kron: You led them right to us! Maybe you can feed them with your hide! Move the herd out, double-time!
- Aladar: What's happening?
- Neera: My brother's moving the herd.
- Neera: Kron! What's going on?
- Kron: Carnotaurs. If we don't keep moving, they'll catch up to us.
- Aladar: But the others in the back, they'll never make it.
- Kron: They'll slow down the predators.
- Aladar: You can't sacrifice them like this! Hold it! That could be you back there, or you!
- Kron: If you ever interfere again, I'll kill you. Stay away from him!
- Neera: Aladar, no! You just-- Just go. I'll be okay.
- [Aladar runs back to warn Baylene, Eema, and the lemurs.] Aladar: Let's go! Let's go! Carnotaurs! Yar: Carno-what? Eema: Carnotaur! A mouth full of teeth with a bad attitude! Let's go! Aladar: Come on, you guys, get on, get on! We're gonna get left behind! [starts running for the herd] Let's go! Hurry up! We're losing them! Plio: Aladar, slow down! [Aladar stops and looks behind to see Baylene and Eema struggling to follow. Then he turns to see Neera, Kron and the rest of the herd leaving without them. Aladar chooses to stay with Baylene and Eema to ensure their survival.]
- Baylene: Oh, joy. Blisters.
- Eema: I've got blisters on my blisters.
- Yar: You don't wanna know where I got blisters.
- Eema: What was that?
- Baylene: It came from up ahead.
- Zini: Okay, what's the worst thing it could be?
- Suri: [worried] A carnotaur?
- Zini: Okay, what's the second worst thing it could be?
- Baylene: Two carnotaurs! Oh, my goodness!
- Eema: That's it! I'm gone!
- Aladar: Everybody! We don't know for sure. It could be the herd. Let's check it out.
- Eema: Oh, it's Bruton.
- Baylene: It appears we weren't the only ones left behind.
- Aladar: What happened?
- Eema: Carnotaurs. Oh, we should keep moving.
- Pilo: We can't just leave him here.
- Eema: We can if we move fast enough.
- Aladar: Hey, uh, you don't look so good. Let me help you.
- Bruton: Save your pity. I just need some rest. Now get away from me.
- Aladar: Suit yourself. If you change your mind, we'll be in those caves. It's dark, but at least it's dry.
- Eema: I like dry. It's the dark part I'm having trouble with. Ouch! Sorry, Url. Sturdy little thing, ain't he?
- Baylene: Ahem. We appear to have a visitor.
- Aladar: You coming in, or what?
- Bruton: What is it with you?
- Aladar: At least I know enough to get in out of the rain. Now come on. On your feet. Uh, you can lie down with us. It's warmer.
- Baylene: May I remind you that he's one of them?
- Aladar: Well, looks like he's one of us now.
- Eema: Who booked this trip, anyway?
- Aladar: Ah, you'll be at the nesting grounds soon enough.
- Eema: Well, when I get there, I'm gonna give Kron a piece of my mind.
- Aladar: You tell him, Eema.
- Yar: If I could sleep that deep, I'd be in paradise.
- Eema: If you could sleep that deep, honey, you'd be dead.
- Pilo: This plant grew on our island. It will make you feel better.
- Bruton: Why is he doing this, pushing them on with false hope?
- Pilo: It's hope that's gotten us this far.
- Bruton: But why doesn't he let them accept their fate? I've accepted mine.
- Pilo: And what is your fate?
- Bruton: To die here. It's the way things are.
- Pilo: Only if you give up, Bruton. It's your choice, not your fate. Well, the plant will help.
- Bruton: Carnotaurs.
- Aladar: What do we do?
- Bruton: Wake the others.
- [Bruton, Eema, Baylene, and the lemurs begin to proceed deeper into the cave. Aladar nudges Url to wake him up; he bellows in fright, and Aladar immediately silences him so he doesn't give them away; the Carnotaurs look up briefly and then continue looking around]]
- Aladar: Go, go! Hurry! Move it, Eema!
- Pilo: Aladar! Aladar! Oh, no!
- Bruton: I'll hold them off! You help the others!
- Aladar: Bruton! Bruton! No! Bruton!
- Pilo: You did what you could.
- Neera: It's okay, little ones. We're going to make it.
- (As Aladar and his group continue deeper and deeper into the cave, the darkness is overwhelming. Aladar can barely see his own feet, let alone and what lays ahead)
- (Zini and Yar pass the time by playing a game)
- Zini: Alright, let's do it again. I spy with my little eye...
- Yar: A rock? (It is a pretty safe guess considering that there isn't much else in the cave)
- Zini: You've had it again. Oh, you are nice!
- Eema: I'll tell you what I spy. A dead end.
- (They all stare at the boulders. They look too big to move, even by dinosaur standards)
- Yar: What have we done now?
- Aladar: I guess we just go back.
- (Zini begins sniffing)
- Zini: Hang on a moment.
- Suri: Zini, what is this?
- Zini: Do you smell that?
- (Suri sniffs, Yar sniffs––soon they are all sniffing. Zini bounds ahead, following the scent. As the others follow, Zini jumps onto a ledge and starts digging at the rocks. Soon a shaft of light appears through one of the cracks)
- Eema: Get a load of that!
- Baylene: Nice show.
- (Aladar knows what has to be done)
- Aladar: Everybody, stand back! We're out of here!
- (With that said, he surges forward, ramming against the wall and pushing it with all his might. But the wall won't budge. He pushes again, harder this time, and some of the rocks begin to shift. Suddenly, the wall collapses, which blocks their road even further, including the small opening that has given them such hope)
- Aladar: Noo!!!! (He smashes himself into the rocks, pounding at them. Years of believing that everything happens for the best, that nothing is impossible, that if you work hard enough you can accomplish anything––all of that has just collapsed in his mind like the wall in front of him. He slumps down against the rocks in defeat)
- Pilo: Aladar, we'll go back.
- Aladar: Back to what? It's gone. We're not meant to survive.
- Baylene: Oh, yes, we were. We're here, aren't we? And how dare you waste that good fortune by simply giving up? Well, shame on you. Shame on you, shame on you. The worst of it is... you allowed an old fool like me to believe I was needed, but I still have a purpose. And do you know what? You were right. And I'm going to go on believing it. And I, for one, am not willing to die here.
- Baylene: Oh, dear.
- Eema: The nesting grounds. It's-- It's untouched.
- Pilo: Our new home.
- Zini: And it comes with a pool!
- Zini: Cannonball!
- Baylene: Ha. Amateur.
- Look out below!
- Aladar: Not bad. But I don't get it. Where's the herd?
- Pilo: Not to mention Neera.
- Eema: [chuckles] They'll get here soon enough. [she looks over to see a stone wall] Oh, no.
- Aladar: Eema?
- Eema: I spoke too soon.
- Aladar: What is it?
- Eema: That is the way we used to get in here.
- Aladar: They'll never make it over that.
- Eema: Aladar, wait, wait! Kron'll eat you alive.
- Aladar: Let him try.
- [Aladar leaves to the cave where they had exit out of.]
- Eema: Oh, I hope Kron's in a listening mood.
- Stay here.
- We'll find a way around it. In the morning, we'll climb it.
- Kron: We have to keep trying. Our survival, our future, is over these rocks. Now, let's go home! You'll make it, won't you, boys?
- Neera: No!
- Kron: Watch them. They're tough. If they can do it, so can you!
- [Aladar arrives at the scene.]
- Aladar: Kron! Get the herd out of here! A carnotaur's coming!
- Kron: Keep moving!
- Aladar: Stop! I've been to the valley. There's a safer way.
- Kron: Go on, show 'em!
- [Kron hits the two iguanodon children with his head, making them cry]
- Neera: Kron, listen to him.
- Aladar: Look, we gotta go now!
- Kron: Go where? Straight to the carnotaurs?
- Aladar: If we hurry, we can get around them! You can't get over those rocks! There's a sheer drop on the other side. You're gonna kill the herd! I know a way to the valley, and everybody can make it! Now follow me!
- Neera: Kron!
- Kron: They're staying with me!
- Aladar: All right, let's go.
- Kron: He's led that monster right to us! This way!
- Aladar: No! Don't move! If we scatter, he'll pick us off. Stand together.
- Neera: Kron.
- [Neera nudges Kron's head, but he is already dead. Aladar and Neera embrace each other. Later, Aladar, Neera, and the herd head through the cave entrance and finally make it into the valley]
- Aladar: Welcome home.
- Eema: Make room! Bringin' in babies is what I do best!
- Yar: I'd say it's been a few years since you hatched anything!
- [Both laugh].
- Eema: You're right. So, let me practice on your head!
- Plio: Look! Somebody wants to meet you!
- Pilo: Oh, aren't you the sweetest little small fry I ever did see.
- Aladar: Hey, little guy. He looks just like me.
- Neera: Meet your dad. He's not as crazy as he looks.
- Eema: Oh! Oh, happy day.
- Baylene: Well done, little one.
- Yar: Come here, you little rascal. Let me get a good look at you. Yep, you're your father's son, all right.
- Zini: Hey, look what I found! New neighbours! Any of you ladies up for a game of, uh, ''monkey in the middle''? Easy, now! Easy! Hey! Whoo!
- Pilo: None of us really know what changes, big or small, lie ahead. One thing is certain-- our journey's not over. We can only hope that in some small way... our time here will be remembered.
