Elmer Bernstein (April 4, 1922 - August 18, 2004) is an American composer, conductor and songwriter.

Bernstein was born in New York City to Jewish parents, Selma Feinstein from Ukraine and Edward Bernstein from Austria-Hungary.

Personal life and death[]
Bernstein was married three times, first to Rhoda Federgren. Their married lasted from 1942 to 1946. Bernstein's second wife Pearl Glusman, whom he had wed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 21, 1946. After the couple's divorce in 1965, Bernstein married Eve Adamson. They remained together for 39 years, until his death.
He was survived by his wife Eve and their two daughters Emilie Bernstein and Elizabeth Bernstein; two sons Peter Bernstein and Gregory Bernstein, from his earlier marriage to Pearl Glusman; and by five grandchildren, Leonard E. Bernstein, Zachary Bernstein, Noah Bernstein, Danny Eskin and Rachel Eskin.
