Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is a 1988 American comedy horror film produced by NBC Productions and distributed by New World Pictures. Cassandra Peterson plays the role of horror hostess Elvira in the character's feature film debut. The screenplay was written by Peterson, John Paragon and Sam Egan; and was directed by James Signorelli.
Synopsis[]
A local horror hostess who wanted to perform in Las Vegas, Nevada, inherits a haunted house from her long lost aunt whom she learned had magical powers and her great uncle wants to kill her and rule the world.
Plot[]
The movie begins with what turned out to be the last scenes of an old horror movie as the movie cut to a control room at a local Los Angeles TV station. At the end of the film, we saw Elvira doing her usual gig (just like in real life). When her show was over and while the news was coming on the air and as she was heading to her dressing room, she was stopped by the station manager, telling her to meet the new station owner. The manager convinced the owner that Elvira can and has to spend a night with him. Elvira refused and told the new owner that she had an act opening up in Las Vegas. The owner suggested that she try her act out on her and sexually harrassed her. Elvira fought back, pushes him to the news desk (breaking it in the process) and quits her job.
In her dressing room, Elvira asked her manager Manny if her show is on. But Manny nervously said that her show can't go on until she pays $50,000. Manny encouraged Elvira to get her job back but she refused and resigned to the fact that she'll just have to find another job. Suddenly, Elvira recived a telegram informing her of the passing of her Great Aunt Morgana Talbot. It also said that she needed to come to Fallwell, Massachusetts, to pick up her inheritance. Seeing that this is the opportunity of a lifetime, Elvira dreamt about the will-reading which turned into a game show, in which she won everything, including cash. So on whim, Elvira decided to go and she was on her way as the opening credits rolled.
