I Am Legend is a 2007 post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Will Smith.
Plot[]
The story is set in a desolate New York City after a virus, originally developed to cure cancer, mutates into a deadly pathogen that wipes out most of humanity. The virus transforms the majority of survivors into nocturnal, zombie-like creatures called Darkseekers.
The film follows Dr. Robert Neville (played by Will Smith), a virologist who is immune to the virus. Neville is seemingly the last human in the city and dedicates his time to finding a cure while broadcasting daily radio messages in hopes of finding other survivors. He is accompanied by his loyal German Shepherd, Sam.
Neville’s life takes a turn when he encounters two other survivors, Anna (Alice Braga) and a young boy, Ethan (Charlie Tahan). Anna believes in a rumored survivor colony and tries to persuade Neville to join her. However, their safety is jeopardized when the Darkseekers discover Neville's hiding spot. The climax sees Neville making a pivotal choice to save humanity, culminating in a poignant and heroic sacrifice. The alternate ending, available in the film’s special edition, offers a more hopeful resolution where Neville discovers a way to communicate with the Darkseekers, leading to a peaceful resolution.
