Inherent Vice is a 2014 American crime comedy-drama directed, produced, and screen-adapted by Paul Thomas Anderson, co-produced by Daniel Lupi and JoAnne Sellar, and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, Jena Malone, Joanna Newsom, Maya Rudolph, and Martin Short. It is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Pynchon.

In 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles detective Larry "Doc" Sportello investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend.[1]
