Isolation is a 2021 horror anthology film created by producer Nathan Crooker. Crooker tasked eleven filmmakers from around the world with making a pandemic-themed horror short using only the resources available to them during pandemic lockdowns in March 2020. The shorts were combined into an anthology. The film was released to on demand services on November 2, 2021. Critics have labeled the "Pacific Northwest" segment as one of the highlights of the film.[1]
"Pacific Northwest" segment[]

MacCulloch and the Roe children
The "Pacific Northwest" segment was filmed on Bainbridge Island, Washington by resident Bobby Roe. It is a modern take on Lord of the Flies of children on an island trying to survive without parents. Portions were filmed using a drone.
Roe cast his son and daughter in the lead roles, who were 3 and 5 at the time of filming. Ex-NBA center Todd MacCulloch was cast as a villain to chase the children with a knife, though Roe kept his children "relatively isolated from the scarier parts of the film with movie-production magic". Roe also received assistance from a friend who loaned him their motorcycle for a scene and from a sailor who captured drone footage of a ghost ship.
Roe was awake early in May 2020 and heard a report of a whale carcass floating in the water nearby. He went searching for it with his drone, and after finding it, brought his family to the location to film a scene before police arrived to cordon off the area.
Working on the film gave Roe the opportunity to show his family an inside look at what he does for a living and to explore and film on the island. When joining the project, he thought, "Worst comes to worst, we have a really good-looking home video, right?"[1]
