Jason Statham (born 26 July 1967) is an English actor, martial artist, and former diver. He starred in films such as The Transporter trilogy and The Expendables film series.

Early life

Statham was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, the son of Eileen (née Yates), and Barry Statham. He grew up with football player Vinnie Jones, alongside whom he would later act. Jones introduced him to football, and Statham went on to play for the local grammar school (1978–1983), which he had attended since the age of 11, a passion that he shared with diving. He has been a Diver on the British National Diving Team and finished 12th in the World Championships in 1992.

Acting career

He got the audition for his debut role in Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) through French Connection, for whom he was modeling. Later on he worked for Guy Ritchie again in the film Snatch (2000), which had both also starred Vinnie Jones. After being in other films, Turn It Up (2000), Ghosts of Mars (2001) and The One (2001), he went on to appear in another Guy Ritchie film, screen partnering with Vinnie Jones once again in the film Mean Machine (2001). In 2002, he had a main role in the film The Transporter (2002), which spawned sequels. He appeared in other films such as The Revolver (2005), Crank (2006), War (2007), Death Race (2008), 13 (2010), The Expendables and the sequels, Furious 7 (2015) and Spy (2015).
