James "Jim" Jonah Cummings (born November 3, 1952
After moving to New Orleans and working as a constructor of Mardi Gras floats, Cummings eventually found himself in Anaheim, California working odd jobs. In 1982, the increasing illness of longtime Winnie the Pooh voice actor Sterling Holloway led to an open call to replace him for the two movies Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too! (1974), Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore (1983). Cummings offered an uncanny substitute, and was hired for his first voice actor job.

 +
He later married and moved to Anaheim, California, where he managed a video store in the early 1980s, before launching his voice-acting career in late 1984. Cummings and his wife Stephanie have two young daughters. Cummings also has two older children from a previous marriage.
Over the next 20 years, Cummings' role in voice acting evolved from bit characters to leading roles in major series at a number of studios, including Nickelodeon, Warner Bros., Pictures, and Universal studios. However, his most famous and long-lasting roles have occurred at Walt Disney Studios, where has provided voices for any number of television series (including leading roles in Gummi Bears, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Bonkers, Gargoyles, and House of Mouse) and movies such as Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas and the Disney special edition of Alice in Wonderland (as the Cheshire Cat singing "I'm Odd"). Ironically, his most famous role for Disney (outside of Pooh) was his non-speaking turn as Ed the laughing hyena in 1994's The Lion King. Seven years later, he had an interest of trying to use his voice for Jake in Kipper: The Movie. This was his first involvement with Kipper the Dog.

 +
Career
Other roles for Cummings include Mr. Bumpy in the cult Claymation show Bump in the Night, Dr. Robotnik on Sonic The Hedgehog, Psy-Crow and Bob the Killer Goldfish on Earthworm Jim and Taz Tazmanian Devil on Taz-Mania and a number of other projects. In addition to Taz and Pooh, Cummings has over the years become the official voice for a number of legendary cartoon characters, including Tigger, Pete, Dick Dastardly, the Slag Brothers, Big Gruesome, Private Meekly, Clyde, and Morocco Mole . He also did some voices on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles such as Leatherhead the mutant alligator and some additional characters. He also did the voice of Don Karnage in Disney's TaleSpin. Cummings has also provided voices for video games, television commercials, and movie trailers, and is the current official announcer for Kids' WB!.

 +
At Disney, Cummings not only replaced Hal Smith as the voice of Winnie-the-Pooh in 1988 (Smith had replaced longtime actor Sterling Holloway in the early 1980s), but also began voicing Tigger in 1990, replacing Paul Winchell (though Winchell continued to voice Tigger occasionally until 1999) after Winchell died in 2005. When actor Jeremy Irons, the voice of Scar in The Lion King, developed vocal problems during recording of the song "Be Prepared", Cummings was chosen to replace him for the rest of the song.

 +
Cummings was the only original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles voice actor to return for the 2007 film. His first three TMNT appearances were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. His first five computer-animated movie appearances included Antz, The Nuttiest Nutcracker, Shrek, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas.
In the world of video games, Cummings has done the voice of Minsc of Baldur's Gate/Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and Drizzt Do'Urden in the First Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance game. He is also prominently displayed in the credits of Kingdom Hearts as Pooh, Tigger, and Pete. Cummings provided his voice for Bad Mr. Frosty, Hougan, and Sumo Santa in Clay Fighter 63 1/3. He voices Sarge and the other soldiers in the Army Men games. In Ys Book I and II for the Turbografx -16 CD system, he is credited as voicing Dalles and also did some side characters' voices for Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.

 +
At Walt Disney Studios, he voiced several lead characters including Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears, (taking over the character of Zummi Gummi after Paul Winchell's departure from the role), DuckTales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Bonkers, Aladdin, Gargoyles, Timon & Pumbaa, The Legend of Tarzan and House of Mouse, and animated films such as Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pocahontas. Cummings also voiced the characters "Bering and Chilkoot" in the 2006 film, Brother Bear 2 and "Razoul" in the 1994 sequel, The Return of Jafar.
He narrates the current Epcot fireworks show, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.

 +
Cummings did some voice work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles such as Leatherhead the mutant alligator and some additional characters. He did the voice of Don Karnage in Disney's TaleSpin. Cummings has provided voices for video games, television commercials, and movie trailers, and was one of the official announcers for Kids' WB!, promo announcer for Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, as well as the official spokesperson for the current Cheez-It commercials and some current Weather Channel commercials (most notably the Wake Up With Al ones). He returned to his role as Taz on Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas.
Cummings is well known for being a superb voice imitator. He imitates Sterling Holloway's voicework as Captain Hook, Winnie the Pooh, Kaa extremely well, and was even able to imitate Joe Alaskey's the voice of Tigger when Alaskey retired. When Tony Jay's vocal cords blew out during production of The Lion King, Jim Cummings was chosen to imitate Jay's voice in the last part of the song "Be Prepared".

 +
Jim Cummings has done the voice of Minsc of Baldur's Gate/Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and Drizzt Do'Urden in the first Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance game. He is prominently displayed in the credits of Kingdom Hearts as Pooh, Tigger, and Pete. Cummings provided the voices for "Bad Mr. Frosty", "Hougan", and "Sumo Santa" in Clay Fighter 63⅓.

James "Jim" Jonah Cummings (born November 3, 1952[1] in Glendale, California) is a prolific American voice actor and has often been considered to be a successor to the voice acting legendary Sterling Holloway.

Personal life

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Cummings relocated to New Orleans, where he designed and painted Mardi Gras floats, worked as a river boat deck hand and sang and played drums in the regionally successful rock band, "FUSION".[2]

He later married and moved to Anaheim, California, where he managed a video store in the early 1980s, before launching his voice-acting career in late 1984. Cummings and his wife Stephanie have two young daughters. Cummings also has two older children from a previous marriage.

Career

At Disney, Cummings not only replaced Hal Smith as the voice of Winnie-the-Pooh in 1988 (Smith had replaced longtime actor Sterling Holloway in the early 1980s), but also began voicing Tigger in 1990, replacing Paul Winchell (though Winchell continued to voice Tigger occasionally until 1999) after Winchell died in 2005. When actor Jeremy Irons, the voice of Scar in The Lion King, developed vocal problems during recording of the song "Be Prepared", Cummings was chosen to replace him for the rest of the song.

Cummings has made some vocal performances using his voice at normal pitch for some younger looking characters like Witterquick from Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light and Glatorian Ackar in Bionicle: The Legend Reborn.
