Catherine "Kya" Clark is a fictional character appearing in the 2022 film Where the Crawdads Sing, from which she serves as the protagonist. She is portrayed by Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Biography[]
She is a resourceful young girl who grows up in a marsh in North Carolina. She is later suspected for the murder of a man who once pursued her.
She is abandoned by her parents and her older siblings in the early 1950s, and she learns to survive on her own. She is taught to read and write by her friend Tate Walker and she falls in love with him, but she is left behind once again when Tate goes to college.
Kya was promised by Chase Andrews to be married, although that did not happen. After she ends her relationship with him, he attacks her and she narrowly escapes. Then, while she is away, Chase is found dead and Kya is engulfed in a murder trial, with the evidence against her seeming insurmountable.
