Louis Coltrane is a fictional character who appears in the 1998 film The Truman Show. This character is portrayed by Noah Emmerich.

Throughout The Truman Show[]

In The Truman Show (as in the fictionalized television show within the film), he plays Marlon, Truman's lifelong friend. Marlon works as a vending machine operator for Goodies and assures Truman of his honesty, despite being complicit in the deception. Emmerich portrays Marlon as a character burdened by guilt due to his role in Truman's manipulation. Marlon's name is a combination of jazz musicians Louis Armstrong and John Coltrane, and Emmerich infuses his character with elements of struggle and vulnerability, including a history of drug addiction.
