Claire: No one else has seen you alive... No one would believe him!

[Phelps, steady, turns to look at Claire. He reaches up to his face... and rips the mask off, revealing Ethan Hunt. He stands up in front of a bewildered Claire, shrugging Jim's coat off his shoulders.]

Ethan: Of course, I'm very sorry to hear you say that, Claire.

Claire: Ethan...

Phelps: (offscreen) Yes.

[Phelps suddenly bursts in, gun in hand, muzzle trained on Ethan. Hunt, cornered, backs away with his hands outstretched.]

Phelps: Ethan Hunt, darling. You remember him, don't you?

Claire: You knew about Jim!

Phelps: Of course. Just exactly when he knew is something of a question. Mind telling me, Ethan? Before or after I showed up in London?

Ethan: Before London. But after you took the Bible from the Drake Hotel in Chicago.

Phelps: They stamped it, didn't they? Those damn Gideons.

Claire: Ethan, if you knew about Jim, why...?

Phelps: "Why the masquerade?" "Why take the risk?" Well, Claire... You've asked the question! And you are the answer.

Ethan: I knew about Jim...

Phelps: ...but he didn't know about you. In all fairness, Ethan, Claire was never convinced her charms would work on you. But I was supremely confident, having tasted the goods. "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife," Ethan...

Claire: Let's just get the money and get out of here.

Phelps: Yes, let's get the money.

[Claire goes to Ethan.]

Claire: Ethan. The money.

[Ethan slowly, deliberately, tilts towards Claire.]

Phelps: Give her the money.

[Claire grabs it out of his open jacket.]

Ethan: You earned it.

[Claire stares at him for a second before ruefully handing the money to Phelps.]

Claire: All ten million.

[Jim pockets it.]

Ethan: Y'know, Claire was wrong about one thing, Jim.

Phelps: Oh? What's that?

[Ethan pulls the VISCO glasses out of his breast pocket and puts them on. Kitteridge, watching on his, well, watch, is mean-mugged by Phelps.]

Kitteridge: Good morning, Mr. Phelps...

[Back to Ethan on the train car.]

Ethan: I'm not the only one who's seen you alive.

[Phelps gives Ethan a look of shock -- barely perceptible, but still evident.]

Phelps: You son of a bitch!

Ethan: It's over, Jim.

[Ethan tosses Phelps the glasses. Jim looks at them, then casts them to the ground, retraining his gun on Ethan.]

Claire: Don't...

[Ethan holds his hand out to Claire.]

Claire: Don't, Jim!

Phelps: "Don't, Jim?"

[Phelps shoots Claire. Struggle between Phelps and Ethan. The gun is lost. Phelps beats Ethan to the ground. His watch alarm beeps rapidly. He turns, goes up the stairs and Ethan goes to Claire.]

[She's already gone.]

[Ethan looks to the ladder hatch and climbs the ladder.]

[He ends up halfway out onto the roof of the train. Ahead of him, Phelps slowly pulls himself forward with a set of suction cups, one foot at a time, pulling and replanting the cups as he goes.]

[Phelps drags himself over the length of the final car, to the back of the train, where the rear engine slants off sharply, a window for the Conductor. A helicopter crashes into the skyline, practically vaulting itself across the mountains. Krieger is piloting. He closes in on the pair.]

[Ethan throws himself forward, crashing into the top of the next car, his jacket billowing over his head. It rips itself off his body, blowing past Jim, who turns to lock eyes with Ethan. Hunt rips off his tie as well.]

[Phelps motions for Krieger to come closer and Ethan is flipped over by the wind, ending up facing the other way. Loses his grip and is flipped headlong onto the roof, only narrowly managing to grab onto a gap.]

[Phelps tries to unscrew a hook from his belt. Meanwhile, in the helicopter's cockpit, Krieger can see the chunnel approaching the tunnel under the English Channel. He gulps and pilots the helicopter directly over the train car. A rope is attached to the bottom of the chopper, meant for Jim to attach to so he can make a clean getaway.]

[Phelps grabs the cable and is about to hook the cable onto his belt, Ethan slides into him and they both crash onto the roof. Ethan grabs the cable out of Phelps hand and clips it onto the roof, screaming defiantly. Phelps kicks Ethan away. He's left hanging on the side of the train.]

[In the cockpit, Krieger pulls on a certain lever. No luck; the cable's too strong to break.]

[The tunnel's seconds away. In a desperate maneuver, Krieger shoves the lever down. The train zooms into the tunnel with the helicopter close behind.]

[In the business car, the message on Max's computer screen changes one last time. This time it says: CONNECTION TERMINATED. TRANSFER LOST.]

Max: Damn!

[Inside the train, the Conductor frantically radios to the Engineer, who is unheard.]

Conductor: No, no, it's in the tunnel!

[Beat.]

Conductor: No, no, don't! It'll crash into us! Accelerate, accelerate!

Ethan: Red light! Green light!
