Samantha Baker is a fictional character appearing in the 1984 film Sixteen Candles, from which he serves as the protagonist. He is portrayed by Molly Ringwald.
Biography[]
She is a high school student who is struggling to navigate the challenges of being fifteen. She feels that she is forgettable and is disappointed that her family has forgotten her sixteenth birthday. She is also dealing with the embarrassment of a note containing information about her crush, Jake Ryan, finding its way into his hands. Additionally, she is being forced to spend time with her grandparents' geeky exchange student, Long Duk Dong, who is having more luck with girls than she is. Sam is currently single and is saving herself for Jake Ryan, but is constantly being pestered by a freshman geek named Farmer Ted. Her main challenge at this time is finding a way to make her sweet sixteen memorable.

She feels confused, anxious, and overwhelmed by the emotions of adolescence. She feels that she is not understood by anyone in her suburban town and finds being sixteen to be a challenging age. She reflects on her situation by saying "When you don’t have anything, you don’t have anything to lose."
