Plot[]
Michael Marks, a police informant, woke up to find himself in a contraption which consisted of a spike-filled mask around his neck. A videotape of Billy the Puppet informs him that he has one minute to retrieve the key which is located behind his right eye with a scalpel, but he cannot bring himself to doing so and throws the scalpel away, cursing Jigsaw. The trap then closes and instantly kills Michael, driving the nails through his skull. Detective Eric Matthews is later called to the scene by Detective Allison Kerry when she discovers a message for him. Eric decides to join Kerry and Sergeant Daniel Rigg in leading a SWAT Team to an abandoned steel factory, where they find the Jigsaw Killer which is John Kramer, who has been heavily weakened by his cancer, as well as computer monitors revealing eight victims including Daniel Matthews, Eric's son, and Amanda Young, the only known survivor of Jigsaw's games. All victims are trapped inside a house and have only but two hours before a deadly nerve agent filling the house kills them, but John promises that Daniel is in a "safe, secure state" if he simply has a conversation with him alone. Pressured by Kerry, Eric agrees to do so in order to buy time for the police tech team to arrive and track the signal from the house.
The eight victims (who were Amanda Young, Daniel Matthews, Jonas Singer, Xavier Chavez, Addison Corday, Obi Tate, Laura Hunter and Gus Colyard) were informed by a found microcassette that antidotes are hidden throughout the house. One antidote is in the safe, the combination is "in the back of their minds" and the order is found "over the rainbow". Gus is killed by a boobey-trapped door, shot through the eye by a magnum at the other side of the door aiming at the peephole, and the group makes their way to the basement, where it is revealed that Obi helped Jigsaw kidnap the others which is supported by Laura who recalls her abduction. He enters the Furnace Trap to obtain two antidotes, but inadvertently activates it and is burned to death within the trap after failing to escape. As they continue searching through the house, Jonas leads them to an upstairs room that Xavier and Addison break into, which houses an antidote behind a steel door and a needle-filled pit containing the key. This trap is intended for Xavier, but he violently throws Amanda into the pit instead; though she retrieves the key, Xavier fails to open the door in time and abandons the group in frustration.
