Star Trek Beyond (2016) is an American science fiction action film and the sequel to 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness. The 13th film in the Star Trek film franchise, "Beyond" is also the third installment in the alternate-timeline reboot series. Directed by Justin Lin from a screenplay by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg (based on the series of the same name created by Gene Roddenberry), the film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin, all of whom are reprising their roles from the previous film. Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella join the film's principal cast for this installment, which is currently scheduled for theatrical release in North America on July 22, 2016.
Star Trek Beyond will coincide with the 50th anniversary celebration of the Star Trek franchise.
