The Dry is a 2020 Australian mystery drama thriller film directed by Robert Connolly, from a screenplay by Connolly and Harry Cripps. It stars Eric Bana, Genevieve O'Reilly, Keir O'Donnell and John Polson. It is on the eponymous 2016 novel by Jane Harper.


Aaron Falk goes back home to his drought-stricken town to attend a tragic funeral. However, his return reopens the door to the unsolved death of a teenage girl.

Bruna Papandrea and Reese Witherspoon acquired the rights for their company, Made Up Stories, to produce the film in 2015. Eric Bana starred in the lead role of Aaron Falk, with Genevieve O'Reilly as Gretchen and Keir O'Donnell as Raco.

The photography for the film began in March 2019 in the Victoria, Australia.


The film was set to be released on 27 August 2020 but it delayed because of COVID-19. It premiered in Melbourne on 11 December 2020. Roadshow Films released the film in Australia on 1 January 2021. IFC Films released the film in the United States on 21 May 2021.
