The Jungle Book is a Disney media franchise that commenced in 1967 with the theatrical release of The Jungle Book. It is based on Rudyard Kipling's works of the same name. The franchise includes a 2003 sequel to the animated film and three live-action films produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The first movie was critically acclaimed by both audiences & critics alike. It was the last movie that Walt Disney himself worked on before he passed away. Walt Disney passed away in 1967, the year that The Jungle Book was released. The Jungle Book (1967 film) is an a film adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Rudyard Kipling. The Jungle Book (1994 film remake) had mixed to positive reviews. This adaptation was different from the original novel & the 1967 film. The film had a 30 million dollar budget, the movie had grossed 43.2 Million dollars in theaters. The remake was not that successful in the box office, but it was not a finical loss for The Walt Disney Company. Between the early 1990's & the mid 2000's, Disney would make direct-to-video sequels, midquels, & prequels of their popular & acclaimed animated movies that would get released to VHS & DVD via Disneytoon Studios (a division of The Walt Disney Company that was shut down in 2018). Some of these sequels were upgraded to theatrical releases such as the Peter Pan sequel, Return To Neverland was released in theaters. Another direct-to-video sequel that was released in theaters. This was the 2003 animated Disney movie, The Jungle Book 2. The Jungle Book 2 was released in theaters in 2003 & it made The film received negative to mixed reviews directed towards the animation as well similarity in plotlines to the first film and it having reused scenes & some reused songs as well as introducing characters from the first movie. However, it was a box office success, grossing $135.7 million against a $20 million budget. The Jungle Book 2 was an adaptation of the sequel novel, Jungle Book 2. In 2016 Walt Disney Pictures released another "Live Action" remake of The Jungle Book. It revived mixed reviews. The 2016 remake of The Jungle Book was considered to be the best "Live Action" remake that Disney released so far. This remake resembled the 1967 film & the novel. Unlike the last Jungle Book remake in 1994. Disney announced that they are going to make a "Live Action remake of the 2003 sequel of The Jungle Book. It grossed $364 million in the United States and Canada, it made $602.5 million dollars in other countries. The budget of the 2016 remake was 175 million dollars. The worldwide total of how much money this movie made in theaters & on home video sales was $966.6 million dollars globally.
