
The Rocketeer is a 1991 American superhero film based on the comic book superhero of the same name created by Dave Stevens, and was produced by Touchstone Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Joe Johnston and was screenplay by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo, and stars Bill Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Sorvino, Alan Arkin, Ed Lauter, Terry O'Quinn, James Handy, and Timothy Dalton, and set in the 1938 Los Angeles, California, The Rocketeer tells the story of stunt pilot Cliff Secord who discovers a hidden rocket-powered jet pack that he thereafter uses to fly without the need of an aircraft. His heroic deeds soon attract the attention of Howard Hughes and the FBI, who are hunting for the missing jet pack, as well as the Nazi operatives that stole it from Hughes. The film was released on June 21, 1991 in the United States by Walt Disney Pictures. It received positive reviews from film critics, but disappointing in the box office sales, grossing $46 million worldwide against its $35-40 million budget as in the wake of sequel planned is abandoned.
