Tony Manero is a fictional character appearing in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever and the 1983 film "Staying Alive," where in the former, he serves as the protagonist. He is portrayed by John Travolta.
Biography[]
Tony Manero is a 19-year-old Italian-American from the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He is the main character of the story, and the plot follows his life, relationships, and struggles. He works at a small paint store and finds solace and admiration at a local discotheque called 2001 Odyssey, where he is an exceptionally gifted dancer. Tony has four close Italian-American friends from the neighborhood: Joey, Double J, Gus, and Bobby C. He also has a complicated relationship with Annette, a neighborhood girl who is infatuated with him but whom he is not attracted to. Later in the story, Tony meets and falls for Stephanie Mangano, a skilled dancer who becomes his partner in a dance competition.
