Turning Red (also known as the alternative title is Mei in other Territories) is an upcoming 2022 American 3D Computed animated Coming-to-age Drama Comedy film directed and written by Domee Shi with the producer by Lindsay Collins. It stars Rosalie Chang, Tyler Perry, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Holland, John Ratzenberger, Noel Wells, Julie Walters and Sandra Oh. This film follows a similar to Pixar Films, Mei was also become a giant red panda in school.

Turning Red release set to be March 11, 2022 with the theatrical release on United States anywhere.

Premise

In Turning Red, Mei Lee (Rosalie Chiang) is a confident, dorky thirteen-year-old torn between staying her mother Ming (Sandra Oh)’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. And as if changes to her interests, relationships, and body weren't enough, whenever she gets too excited (which for a teenager is practically ALWAYS), she "poofs" into a giant red panda. Fortunately, Her father Mayo (Matthew McConaughey) is on hand to help.

Production

Development

On May 8, 2018, it was reported that Domee Shi, who wrote and directed the Pixar short Bao that same year, was writing and directing a full-length feature film at the studio, making her the first woman of color to direct a Pixar film. On November 26, 2018, Shi confirmed that she was working on a film at the studio. Shi also said that the film was in early stages of development, with the story still being worked on, and that "[she is] really excited to play in this new 90-minute film format". On January 1, 2019, Shi said that she planned for the film to be "entertaining and emotional". On December 9, 2020, Shi's film was announced with the title Turning Red, with the plot also being unveiled.

The film takes place in Toronto, Canada during the early 2000s, as indicated through Easter eggs[clarification needed] in the teaser trailer and on Mei's student ID in the teaser poster, as well as confirmation by a production designer in February 2021.

Animation

Rona Liu will serve as production designer in the film, after previously doing so for for director Domee Shi's short Bao. Liu said that working on a feature film was "a dream come true" for her.

Release

Turning Red is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on March 11, 2022 by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. On June 17, 2021, a Pixar insider reaffirmed the film would likely have a theatrical release, after both Soul (2020) and Luca (2021) were rescheduled to receive direct-to-digital releases on Disney+ in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marketing

The most revealing on this first look in Pixar Day according to the film of Disney Investor Day 2020. The teaser trailer will be July 14, 2021.

Home Media

This film was anticipated released in March 11, 2022 on Disney+ with premier access. Also this film has been release on digital will be April 2022. Available on DVD, Bluray, and Digital 3D BluRay on May 2022 before that film has begin.

It also being adding a dialogue and cutscene while Mei has been angry and become a giant red panda and her boyfriend Archie surprises to her while say "Oh my god it's a panda(Beep Bop Skedobop)" along with her bestfriend of crush Archie.
