A shared universe is a modern movie marketing concept popularized by the overwhelming success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from Marvel Studios. After the several false starts, DC Films decided upon a cinematic Multiverse of multiple different worlds rather than being bound by a single continuity like Marvel. Other studios have experimented in expanding non-superhero franchise with movies like Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Godzilla vs. Kong was a surprise hit, indicating that more spinoffs of WB's kaiju "Monsterverse" will be produced.
