shared universes are going Multiverse

A shared universe is a modern movie marketing concept popularized by the overwhelming success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from Marvel Studios. After the several false starts, DC Films decided upon a cinematic Multiverse of multiple different worlds rather than being bound by a single continuity like Marvel. Other studios have experimented in expanding non-superhero franchise with movies like Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Godzilla vs. Kong was a surprise hit, indicating that more spinoffs of WB's kaiju "Monsterverse" will be produced. Historians will point out that the Universal Monsters of the the 1940s and 50s innovated this concept long ago.
