Zero Dark Thirty Review Roundup

Zero Dark Thirty is an amazing film. Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to The Hurt Locker is the highly anticipated artistic dramatization of the assassination of Osama bin Laden by a team of U.S. Navy SEALS. The film is long, at 2 hours and 37 minutes, and very dense with dialogue, with nearly a hundred speaking roles.

Every critic and filmgoer with a blog has put Zero Dark Thirty near or at the top of their predictions for the Best Film Oscar. This buzz, combined with the film's subject (that which is raw, challenging, polarizing, and often uncomfortable for America's collective psyche), is enough to convince you to see it, but consider these points to help you grasp what you're getting into by going to the cinema this December:

  • Zero Dark Thirty…

Westerns to Watch

With the release of Quentin Tarantino's first Western film (Django Unchained) only a few days away, Moviepedia thought it would be a good time to honor this beloved genre. Below is a list of the 30 must-see Western films, categorized in no particular order into three very distinct categories: Spaghetti Westerns, Classic Westerns, and New Westerns. Their trailers are displayed so that you can get a good feel of the story, the mood, and the stars. Plus, movie trailers for old Western films are some of the most bad ass trailers of all time.

Check out the lists and vote for your favorite film in each category! If a must-see Western film is missing, share your opinion in the comments section at the bottom. Giddyap!

Alex Cross Review Roundup

If you've been super excited for the new Alex Cross movie, I'm gonna get it over with and bust your bubble right now: It's supposed to be pretty terrible.

To be honest, what were we (fans of James Patterson and/or the films Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider), really expecting? In the role of Alex Cross, they have replaced the world class Morgan Freeman with Tyler Perry, a guy best known for dressing up in drag as an old woman and directing himself in a string of mediocre family comedies, the "Madea" series. For a director, they brought in Rob Cohen, who was behind The Fast and the Furious, XXX, and Dragonheart. Enough said.

I must have been delusional when I was hoping that this was going to be a respectable adaptation of a really good boo…

Paranormal Activity 4 Review Roundup

The fourth installment of the Paranormal Activity series comes out today, and this greatly affects two types of people: die-hard P.A. loyalists and scary movie buffs who will buy a ticket to any fright show during the month of October. It also appears that the Latino population in the U.S. is expected to turn out in big numbers, as they saw the first three Paranormal Activity films in disproportional numbers compared to the national population. [1] Just an interesting factoid for ya!

Without further ado, here is a compilation of reviews for the new film. Many top critics have given it a score of 2 out of 4 stars, so it's hard to imagine the new movie being anything more or less than average, which is too bad.

  • 1 Loved It
    • 1.1 Alison Willmore - Mo…

Argo Review Roundup

Argo comes out today, and the reviews are amazing! Before following the links to see what some of the top critics had to say, here are some key points taken from the many reviews I read:

  • Nobody was expecting humor in this suspenseful political thriller, but surprisingly, this movie induces a lot of laughter.
  • With his first attempt at a feature film, screenwriter Chris Terrio hits it out of the park as his screenplay is what takes the film from good to great.
  • After 3 films, it's official: Ben Affleck is a better director than an actor. His best acting performances have been in the movies he has directed, which further proves this point.
  • The few less-than-stellar reviews never mention the acting, the script, the cinematography, or anything havin…
